Daylilies at Night

A long exposure of daylilies at night.

Daylilies at Night

This photo depicts a nighttime scene where daylilies become the unexpected stars against the nocturnal backdrop. The setting is the Park Vista Doubletree Hotel in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, and the time is just before midnight on June 11th, 2021. With the world shrouded in darkness, a 30-second exposure breathes light into the scene, giving life to the flowers that line the path. The extended exposure creates a stillness that makes the vibrant daylilies and the scattered leaves on the brick pathway stand out, as if they’ve been spotlighted on nature’s stage. There’s a dreamlike quality to the image, where the stationary becomes dynamic and the ordinary transforms into the magical under the cloak of the night sky.
